Whether it's planning an epic family getaway, stepping up your walking game, or giving caffeine the boot, we're all itching to tick off those boxes! One of my top missions this year? Making sure everything in our home has its own cozy little spot. With two tiny tornadoes running around, clutter can turn my zen into a stress storm faster than you can say "where's my shoe?" So, I'm on a quest to organize our home and keep it spick and span! I’m hunting for easy-peasy ways even my little helpers can join in on the tidy party. Sure, our home will have its messy moments, but I’m convinced that if everything has a home, cleaning up will be a breeze, leaving us plenty of time for laughter and games!
Taming the chaos of your home might seem like climbing Everest, but fear not! With the right game plan and a sprinkle of time, you can turn that mountain into a molehill—fun and satisfying!
Check out these nifty tips to whip your home into shape and make it the organized oasis of your dreams this year!
Declutter First
Before you begin organizing, take the time to declutter. Go through each room and categorize items into four groups: keep, donate, recycle, or discard. Reflect on whether each item is genuinely useful or adds joy to your life. This crucial step will help you create more space and streamline the organization process. Although this phase may be time-consuming, thoroughly addressing each item will ensure that maintaining your organization is much easier in the long run.
Use Storage Solutions Wisely
Invest in adaptable storage solutions that cater to your needs and aesthetic. I will share a few of my top picks, where you can either save or indulge. Personally, I've discovered that selecting the right storage pieces for my belongings has saved me both time and money when on the hunt throughout the year. Here are some options to think about:
Shelving Units:Â Perfect for books, decorative items, and more.

Maximize Vertical Space
Don't overlook the potential of vertical space! Consider utilizing wall-mounted shelves, hooks, and racks to organize items such as hats, bags, and tools. This approach not only conserves floor space but also enhances the visual appeal of your rooms.

Label Everything
Labeling is a straightforward yet powerful method for maintaining order. By placing labels on bins, jars, and shelves, you can ensure that everything has its own specific spot. This approach is particularly beneficial in shared areas or for family members who need to easily locate or return items.
Creating these labels is a fantastic project for a Cricut or Silhouette machine using vinyl. You can also find premade labels on Etsy (linked here) or opt to handwrite on labels like these (linked here). Even if you don’t consider yourself particularly creative, your home can achieve that polished look often associated with professional organizers.

5. Designate a Drop Zone
To avoid clutter building up at your entryway, establish a specific drop zone. This space may feature hooks for coats, a tray for keys, and a bench with storage for shoes and bags. A well-organized drop zone ensures that order is maintained right from the moment you step into your home.
Idea: We have a cabinet that I discovered on Facebook Marketplace, which serves as a shoe holder. On top of it, we keep a bowl for our keys, some loose coins, and other small items. This arrangement has been an excellent way to keep everything organized in one spot, and I find that my keys get misplaced much less often.
6. Create a Cleaning and Maintenance Schedule
Once your home is organized, maintaining that order requires consistent effort. Develop a cleaning and maintenance schedule tailored to your lifestyle. This could involve daily tasks such as wiping down surfaces and weekly responsibilities like vacuuming and doing laundry. You can use organizing lists with magnets for your fridge, which is my preferred method since I enjoy physically checking items off my list. Alternatively, you can create a phone list for jotting down any daily or weekly to-dos as they come to mind. If you're ready to treat yourself (it's on my wishlist), consider investing in a digital wall calendar, like the Skylight, (tap to shop) that the entire family can sync to!
Digital Declutter
Organizing goes beyond just managing physical belongings. It's essential to declutter your digital life too. Take the time to sift through your emails, remove unneeded files, and arrange your photos and documents into organized folders. This practice will help you maintain order and lessen digital stress. The great thing about this task is that it can be accomplished during nap times, as you unwind for the evening, on long car rides, and more.
Personalize Your Space
A thoughtfully arranged home should showcase your unique style and cater to your needs. Incorporate personal elements such as artwork, plants, or a comfortable reading corner. When your space resonates with your personality, you’re more inclined to maintain its organization.
By applying these tips, you'll be on the path to crafting a home that is organized, functional, and inviting throughout the year. Keep in mind that organization is a continual journey, so be patient and embrace the process of achieving a more streamlined and serene living space. You've got this! -Aly
